For DAMEs & referrers

Referral scope

What we assess

  • CASA-directed psychological, psychometric and neuropsychological assessment
  • Diagnostic clarification (ADHD, autism, mood, anxiety, trauma, OCD)
  • Cognitive and neuropsychological assessment after concussion, brain injury, seizure or neurological illness
  • Mental health review after treatment, medication change or hospitalisation
  • Return-to-flying and fitness-for-duty assessment
  • Independent second opinion

How we work

What you can expect

  • A direct professional referral pathway — no self-referral triage in the way
  • Pre-assessment consultation to clarify the referral questions
  • Evidence-based, appropriately selected psychometric and cognitive testing
  • Reports structured to the CASA DAME Clinical Practice Guidelines — aeromedical implications, risk factors, approach to certification, information required, and indicative outcomes — so findings map directly onto the framework you use
  • Structured reports separating history, symptoms, objective findings, functional implications, risk and protective factors and recommendations
  • Secure document transfer for referral, records and reports
  • Clinician-to-clinician communication with appropriate pilot consent
  • Realistic turnaround estimates confirmed at the outset

Referral questions

Suggested wording

Clear referral questions produce clinically useful reports. Where helpful, you may wish to adapt wording such as:

  • "Please provide an independent psychological assessment addressing current diagnosis, severity, treatment response and functional capacity relevant to safety-critical aviation duties."
  • "Please provide a neuropsychological assessment of attention, memory, processing speed and executive functioning following [event]."
  • "Please provide diagnostic clarification regarding possible ADHD / autism in an adult pilot, including developmental history and functional impact."
  • "Please comment on stability, relapse risk and protective factors relevant to return to flying."

Independence

Our role

We provide an independent clinical opinion responding to the specific referral questions you set. We do not determine whether a medical certificate is issued. Final certification decisions remain with CASA and the relevant aviation medical decision-makers.
